PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
New England has been a nationally recognized leader in service coordination dating back to the early 1990’s when the Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont HFAs were five of ten states selected nationally as grant recipients under Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Supportive Services Program in Senior Housing. Models of service coordination were further refined when several of these states also received Administration on Aging funding to expand the concept of resident service coordination in housing. NERSC emerged as a direct result of these programs when a group of New England Resident Service Coordinators, other housing professionals, and several state and regional agencies initiated the concept of a regional training that lead to the first NERSC Conference, held in Maine during June of 1999. In 2009 the 11th Annual NERSC Conference will be held on April 29-May 30, 2009 on the waterfront of Burlington, VT. Over its ten years, the NERSC Conference has been recognized as one of the most respected Resident Service Coordination conferences in the country. Vermont is pleased to again host this prestigious conference.
To enhance the profession of Resident Service Coordination throughout New England, NERSC, Inc. will continue to facilitate the delivery of quality programs that are relevant to the work of RSCs. We will do this by creating a sense of community within our profession that strengthens and advances the “value added” impact of our work, making connections and providing the opportunity to access information and resources. NERSC is committed to being innovative, user-friendly and engaging. We believe our commitment will lead to improved networking relationships across the entire housing and supportive services delivery system.
NERSC will continue as New England’s premier event for training service coordinators and other housing professionals who serve a diverse resident population. NERSC, Inc. will seek to establish a better understanding of the work of Resident Service Coordinators and the “value added” benefits of their efforts. The Corporation will supplement and improve relationships with existing Service Coordinator partners at the state and national level and will collaborate and complement the work of these groups. Our goals include expansion of the www.nerscinc.org website so that it provides a conduit for communication, sharing of educational resources and training information. NERSC will serve as a vehicle for marketing the service coordination profession. Other features of the nercsinc website will eventually include a ListServe feature for posting questions and answers, job postings, referrals, and sharing general information including a Resident Service Coordination Manual. Our intention is to respond to the needs as expressed by you, the family of housing and service professionals. We are NOT a membership organization and there will be no dues required to be part of the NERSC, Inc organization. NERSC will solicit your ideas, your feedback, your basic contact information and a few questions related to the nature of your work. In the future, we plan to be a regional clearinghouse for data related to the demographics of service coordination in New England.
