About the event
The Rights of People with Disabilities in Housing
Presented by Kathy Gips
Several laws provide rights for people with disabilities in housing: the federal Fair Housing Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and many state laws. We will untangle what applies when, the requirements to provide reasonable accommodations and reasonable modifications, what questions may be asked people with disabilities and what documentation may be required. We’ll touch on difficulty subjects such as whether a monkey or snake can be an assistance animal, who needs to pay for access changes in a unit, whether housing providers can require funds in escrow. We’ll address these issues through lecture, scenarios and discussion. There will be plenty of time for your questions.
This is a 1.5-hour training session that will be hosted on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
Session Times: 11:00am-12:30pm EST
Level: Beginner, Intermediate
