During this workshop, we will explore the challenges and prevalence of mental illnesses and how they relate to your role in housing. We will challenge the stigma surrounding mental illness and attendees will learn how to feel more comfortable interacting with residents who have mental health challenges through the exploration of basic techniques used when interacting with persons with mental illness.
Objectives
1. Unlearn some of the misconceptions around mental illness.
2. Learn some basic techniques for interacting with persons with mental illness.
3. Learn more about some of the mental health issues likely to be experienced by resident service coordinators.

Presenter: Thomas Grinley, Director at Office of Consumer & Family Affairs
Presenter Bio: Thomas Grinley's entire career has been in behavioral health. He holds a BS in psychology with a concentration in applied behavior analysis, is working toward an MS in clinical psychology and also holds an MBA. Thomas is a Mental Health First Aid instructor and a presenter for NAMI's In Our Own Voice program.
